Bantams

Cochins/Pekins

Thanks to Christina from Genoa, I purchased my first Cochin Bantams from an exotic animal auction. They are the cutest chickens I've ever seen!!  I don't yet know what will happen here, I might explore the possibility of showing them? Or they just might become my yard flowers.

Barred Rock Cochins

talking about a small power packet, this little rooster knows his stuff and isn't afraid to let the others know.
Beautiful barring and great layers of light brown eggs, my best layers
,
i'd almost part with all of my birds and keep just these....naww

Black Mottled Cochins

This one is what got me interested in the cochins, this little hen is a walking ball of feathers,so very cute. I think she is an older girl and isn't laying very well, and i recently lost the rooster, but i did manage to collect a 1/2 a dozen to hatch out, unfortunately most were roosters but I was blessed with one pair
. They lay small white eggs

 Silkies
Non Beared Buff
Non Beared White
 Beared White Silkies.
This was my first experience with these absolutely gorgeous chickens,
I really enjoy watching them cruise the barnyard.

Sultans

A fancy little bird to say the least
They are very cute and funny, they move around with jerky motions,
because their sight is limited because of the tuft of feathers on top of their heads.
Perfect for the hobbyist

 d'Uccle

I just love the attitude of these little roosters,so cocky for their small size, kind of like a chihuahua,  they think they can fight the world. I get a kick out of just watching them strut their stuff!! I plan on adding a few other color varieties, not sure just yet which??  d'Uccles are true miniatures.

Milli Fleurs

The original d'Uccle and my favorite bantam. My friend Christina purchased them for me, unfortunatly i lost 3 out of the 7 that i recieved.  I am almost certain that there are at lease 2 hens and 2 roosters.

Porcelain d'Uccle

Beautiful bird with faint spots and a honey yellow/ light blue coloring
good layers of a cream colored egg

Wyandotte Bantams

These two beauties were a gift in trade for disbudding my friends goats. Very good layers of light brown eggs
Thanks Christina Laska

All Purpose

The back bone of just about every farmstead. If all else fails you have eggs for dinner.
Good hardy dual purpose chickens are a must.

Black Australorp

I have had several breeds of chickens so far, and feel that this breed has been the hardiest of them all.
Good layers of light brown eggs, broody and great foragers

Rhode Island Reds

Not much can be said for this famous bird, it truly does prove itself as excellent layer of dark brown eggs.
Usually the roosters tend to be a bit aggressive, however something went right with this one,
"Drum Stick"  is truly a keeper
. Then again it might be that the Black rooster "Wish Bone" is a bit intimidating,
however also calm, maybe he keeps "Drum Stick" in line

Silver Laced Wyandott

I purchased 6 chicks from the local feed store and was blessed with 5 hens and 1 rooster.
how many times does that happen!!
"Kernel Kentucky Fried" Kernel for short
I have always liked this little bird, very winter hardy. and a good layer of medium brown eggs.

Narragansett Turkey

Introducing Samson & Delila
Oh my was I excited to receive these two chicks from my friend
 Christina Laska.
And became even more excited when I realized that they were a pair !!!
talk about a blessing !!!
I have always wanted a pair, but not willing to order 30 birds at one time to fill the minimum requirement of the hatcheries. The Narragansett is a very old breed, developed during the Pilgrim days, crossing a turkey from England to the wild turkey, they are very large when mature,, they stay home very well, are the friendliest of the turkey breeds and reproduce without help from the outside.
I Just Love Them

Black n' White Muscovie Ducks

Introducing Donald and Daisy & Daffy and Ducky
Another blessing!! from my friend Theresa Morrow, she found these at a bird auction for me.
they are popular farm ducks used to control flys and other bugs, they don't require the water hole or mudd holes that other ducks need to breed, because they originate from Mexico

Porcelain Guineas

Ok i can't tell them apart...lol....so no names given
Eggs were given to me by my friend Barbara & Scott Nissen,  that we hatched under our incubator. I was really excited to get these, the ultimate homestead need to have bird, they are terrific watch dogs, a bit noisy with their own individual sounds. But boy can they put a hole in the tick population, and I'm sure the dogs appreciate that

And for raising such fabulous bird, we are gifted with the bounty!
 they are free ranged.
In other words they have the run of the farm.
